The theme for this year’s Pride is Gay Icons. If one of my favourite Hollywood legends and gay icons Elizabeth Taylor did visit Brighton, this is my suggestion for a chic and not too shabby experience of Brighton.
Stay: Blanch House – Brighton’s original boutique hotel. She would have loved the location in Kemptown, being close to the seafront to walk her dog Daisy and the fabulously attentive service…most likely experienced in the cosy and most excellent cocktail bar. She would be staying in the Perrier Jouet room naturellement.
Drink: MetroDeco – One of the best teas in Brighton served up in a chic, 1930s style atmosphere, with a mismatch of vintage furniture and chandeliers. The wonderful staff would welcome her dog Daisy with open arms and provide her with the most fun and glamourous breakfast, lunch, tea experience in Brighton.
Eat: Riddle & Finns – Elizabeth loved her food (her drink, her husbands and her diamonds). I think she might have loved a plate of oysters served up alongside a Black Velvet (Guinness and champagne) in the low-key, but decidedly chic atmosphere of marble high-top tables and chandeliers.
Shop: The Lanes – Where else for one of the best displays of diamonds in the UK? She would probably like Finch the Jewellers, who specialise in platinum and diamonds and treat every visitor to their shop like a film star.
Flowers: Miss Mole’s Flower Emporium – I’m pretty sure Elizabeth would have ordered in white gardenias from here to decorate and scent her hotel room (her favourite flower). Incidentally the aroma of Kate Middleton on her wedding day – FACT.
Now if you are off to celebrate Pride but have had a long, hard week at work and need to get into the mood, take some advice direct from Elizabeth herself…
“Pour yourself a drink, put on some lipstick and pull yourself together…”
