Bar de la Mer – beachside lunch

It’s one of those places in Brighton that always seems to have been around. Even in the midst of winter the sign by the steps to the beach (opposite the Grand Hotel) is there reminding you of long summer days behind and ahead of you. Bar de la Mer was the place to be at the first Fat Boy Slim beach gig back in 2001 (I was there) and is a super place to grab a cold drink and watch the hustle of the seafront happen.

Sitting there on a sunny day, you feel you could be anywhere…and a holiday relaxation starts to kick in. The staff are helpful and friendly…not worn out by a stream of demanding customers on a hot day. If you’re lucky you’ll be serenaded by live music from Brighton Music Hall just along the arches…and you might even partake in an impromtu dance after a cold beer and some satisfying beach gumbo (calamari and prawns anyone?). Ah… ‘Sitting on the Dock of the Bay’ never sounded so good…
