Like Alice, going into Wickle, my favourite shop in Lewes, is like falling into a magical wonderland. It’s a delightful mish-mash of toys galore, chic vintage style clothes for kids and mamas, home accessories, and a coffee shop at the back…no weird rabbits running around here (or did I miss him?). That’s the problem with Wickle…it can just be a little too overwhelming…so many temptingly gorgeous things and too little time.
To buy for me? Or buy for a gift? It’s on our annual Christmas shopping trip to Lewes and it’s never let me down. All the ladies in our family are well catered for and I drop a lot of hints to my husband too. The highlight of this visit was a quiet and relaxing coffee in the cute café area at the back…though small person did not want to leave…see below.
The best bits of Wickle (and also problems too):
- There is just so much to choose from (thankfully the staff can happily point you in the right direction)
- It’s excellent for gift buying…I never leave empty handed
- There is a Brio train set available for children to play with, plus a mini shopping trolley to push around the shop. Hence why Little G did not want to leave without either…(though kept her very quiet while we enjoyed a coffee…)
- There is just so much to choose from…oh I said this before?…but it means I always want to go back for more…perhaps that’s Wickle’s secret?
Where: Wickle, 24 High Street, Lewes BN7 2LU
How: Skip the car, and grab a direct train from Brighton…it takes just 15 minutes…easy.
