It’s no surprise that by now you’ve probably figured out that I love the seaside and anything seasidy. That includes a bit of sailor couture. One of my favourite looks? Sailor style on small people (that’s babies and children, not people who are vertically challenged but that’s fine too). The Victorian’s started that one!
Even Lady Mary’s baby George posed in a sailor suit in the promotional photos (yes, Downton Abbey is back soon!), a little Prince William once wore one as a page boy and I even found one for little G too (from a harbour boutique in the picturesque Port-en-Bassin, Normandy, France).
I once saw a family (Mummy, Daddy, son and daughter) promenading along Hove seafront all wearing matching sailor style outfits…it sounds like a style faux pas, but they were the most casually hip and stylish family I’ve ever seen. Think classic Laura Ashley sailor style and you won’t go far wrong. For the grown-ups amongst us, I absolutely love the French actress and model (and Chanel muse) Anna Mouglais’s look in September’s Harper’s Bazaar…it’s a shame her jeans are Gap and not the top (also Chanel of course), or I would be snapping it up.
