In the last week we had a lovely play date with our old neighbour Oscar (so lovely to see two children play so beautifully together…and allow us Mums to chat away!), then on Friday we headed up to London after work for a fun packed weekend seeing family and exploring the home of the Hipsters in East London (which is just like the North Laine in Brighton really…but with possibly more beards and Aeropress coffee).
On Friday we introduced Little G to sushi at one of our little secrets near Victoria (Ichi-Riki)…the edamame (the soya beans you suck from the pod) were a winner, but we didn’t get much further than licking the sashimi…still I think it’s good to experiment and she also enjoyed saying ‘konnichiwa‘ to our lovely waitress.
On Saturday we met up with my sister-in-law to finally see her pad in hip Haggerston (we’ve been a bit distracted these last 3 years – sorry Han!) and then with her boyfriend (who introduced himself to Little G by giving her a gorgeous big pink bunny – gold star and thank you Tom!) took us on a local tour. Starting with a walk along the canal; delicious brunch at Mr Buckley’s; a visit to Hackney City Farm (a little wild oasis in the middle of the city, brilliant); exploring Columbia Road (home of the famous flower market on a Sunday with a row of hip home and vintage shops I could have loitered in all day); then Brick Lane…and ending up in the very ‘scandi chic’ Fika (on their bijou roof terrace). Here we had the most delicious strawberry wine and home made Swedish style cinnamon buns (oh heaven really is a warm cinnamon bun!).
Come Sunday we were exhausted with signs of colds setting in…but I still managed to paint one more door in the hall (I’m currently on one a weekend) and Little G indulged in her arty side and love for blue…Yves Klein eat your heart out.
